It’s incredibly rewarding to work in a niche segment of the reinsurance (insurance for insurance companies) and finance industry — one that not only challenges me intellectually but also aligns with my passion for precision and process improvement.
At EXL, I’ve had the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in ceded reinsurance accounting, particularly within the Property & Casualty (P&C) lines. This role has allowed me to understand the end-to-end accounting and reconciliation processes, and I’m truly grateful for the chance to dive deep into such a specialized area.
My day-to-day responsibilities have helped me strengthen a wide range of skills and tools, including:
Blackline reconciliations for accurate and timely financial reporting
Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) reconciliations
Journal entry posting and validation processes
Working with ceding statements and understanding treaty terms
Performing balance sheet analytics to ensure integrity in reporting
Utilizing Power BI for dynamic dashboards and data visualization
Leveraging Advanced Excel tools and Power Pivot for data modeling and reporting efficiency
My focus has always been on delivering accuracy, efficiency, and clarity in every task — from reconciliation to reporting. This role continues to push me to grow both as a finance professional and as a strategic thinker in the insurance domain.
Sometimes, destiny takes us in directions we never imagined — and in my case, it led me to an exciting new opportunity where I could bring together everything I had learned from my previous roles.
After nearly three years at Accenture, I came across a job opportunity that instantly resonated with my professional goals. The role promised deeper involvement in reinsurance accounting, specifically in the ceded reinsurance function for Property and Casualty (P&C) lines of business. The job description aligned perfectly with my background, yet also offered space for significant learning and growth.
On November 7, I joined EXL as an Assistant Manager. This role marked a major step forward in my career. For the first time, I began working on the ceded side of reinsurance, gaining critical exposure to how insurers transfer risk to reinsurers, manage recoveries, and maintain compliance with complex financial arrangements.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my time at EXL has been the opportunity to work with highly knowledgeable peers and mentors. Their expertise, combined with a collaborative environment, significantly accelerated my learning curve and deepened my understanding of the reinsurance ecosystem.
This transition allowed me to bridge the gap between operational finance and reinsurance strategy, enriching both my technical and industry knowledge.
I spent a rewarding 33 months at Accenture, growing both personally and professionally. The experience gave me deep insights into finance operations, especially within the reinsurance domain, and I had the privilege of working with some truly supportive and talented individuals.
During this time, I gained hands-on experience with cash allocations, payment processing, RI query handling, and internal reporting systems — all while working in a fast-paced, global environment. I became confident in tools like STARS, strengthened my communication skills, and learned how to collaborate across functions and geographies.
But as I reflected on my long-term goals, I realized there was still much more to explore and achieve. I had built a solid foundation, but I wanted to push beyond my current skill set and take on new challenges that would expand my career horizons.
So, after almost three enriching years, I made the decision to move forward — excited and optimistic about what lies ahead.
My time at Accenture was incredibly fulfilling — not just because of the work itself, but because of the amazing managers and colleagues I had the chance to collaborate with. The workplace culture was supportive, and I was consistently encouraged to take initiative and own my responsibilities.
I worked as a Finance Associate in the Reinsurance domain, a specialized area I had never explored before joining. My core responsibilities included:
Cash Allocations: Ensuring that all incoming payments were accurately matched and allocated to the correct accounts.
Payments Processing: Managing end-to-end payment workflows efficiently and securely.
RI (Reinsurance) Queries Handling: Responding to and resolving reinsurance-related queries from stakeholders and internal teams.
Bi-Weekly Reporting: Preparing and sending key reports to both the team and senior management to ensure transparency and informed decision-making.
STARS Application Oversight: I was responsible for ensuring timely and accurate updates in STARS, our primary application tool. I closely monitored that all payment allocations were completed on the same day.
This role helped sharpen my attention to detail, communication skills, and operational accuracy — all essential in a domain as data-sensitive as reinsurance. It also strengthened my ability to work under tight deadlines while collaborating across multiple teams.
After spending around 15 months at Genpact, gaining valuable experience in finance operations and global collaboration, I was presented with a new and exciting opportunity — to join Accenture in a role focused on reinsurance.
At that time, I had no prior exposure to the reinsurance domain, and the concept was entirely new to me. But I've always believed that growth begins at the edge of your comfort zone. What attracted me most wasn’t just the whooping 136% salary hike — it was the culture and people that ultimately influenced my decision.
I'm someone who values work environments that foster learning, collaboration, and empathy. During the interview process, I instantly connected with my hiring manager. Her warmth and clarity made a lasting impression. In fact, by the time the interview concluded, I knew I wanted to work under her leadership.
So, in February 2021, I officially began my journey at Accenture, stepping into a brand-new domain and embracing a steep learning curve. This move marked a significant shift — not only in the nature of work but also in my career outlook. Reinsurance, though unfamiliar at first, quickly became an area of interest as I immersed myself in the workflows, terminology, and analytical processes.
This transition from finance reconciliation at Genpact to reinsurance operations at Accenture added a whole new dimension to my professional journey.
Graduating during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was not easy. The job market was uncertain, and like many others, I faced the challenge of launching my career during a time of global disruption. Despite being a strong academic performer, opportunities were limited. I had two offers—one from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and another from Genpact. I chose to begin my professional journey with Genpact.
In December 2020, I joined Genpact as a full-time employee. This marked the start of an incredibly enriching and transformative experience. As part of a small but impactful team, I had the freedom to take initiative and the chance to contribute meaningfully from day one.
My role was primarily focused on financial reconciliations, specifically handling the Travel & Expense (T&E) accounts for the USA and Canada regions for a dedicated business entity. The primary tool I worked with was OneStream. What made this role truly fulfilling was the exposure it gave me to a global work environment. I regularly interacted with colleagues and stakeholders from across the world, which helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I’ve always believed in continuous improvement. I would often ask myself, “How can we make this better?” and actively sought ways to turn challenges into opportunities. Whether it was streamlining a reconciliation process or finding new efficiencies in the T&E cycle, I was committed to delivering value and learning along the way.
I even received acknowledgements and awards for my contribution. I was awarded with Bronze recognition by AVP and best mentee - Jaipur site under mentor mentee program.
This first role not only gave me technical experience in finance operations and OneStream but also nurtured my problem-solving mindset and global collaboration skills.
